SOCIAL STUDIES

At Conway School, social studies is a content area in which children are able to develop individuality, integrity, resourcefulness, cooperation, and other qualities necessary for social maturity. Students will gain an essential knowledge of the world through the study of geography and history. The contrast between the richness and diversity of cultures and the sameness of all human needs and wants creates a challenge for understanding. An awareness of the leadership which our nation contributes to the world and the necessity for it to continue in a quality manner should be developed in the students.

The five strands of the social studies program are history, society, geography, economics, and citizenship. Often themes or units are centered around a social studies topic covered at a specific grade level, and interwoven with reading, language arts, and mathematics. The specific topics in social studies for each grade level are listed under grade level sections on our website.
