LIBRARY-MEDIA CENTER - Mrs. Tricia Small |

|
The Library is a central component of Conway School. Through regularly scheduled classes and "open" time, the library strives to support the instructional and recreational reading needs of students. In keeping with Conway's focus on differentiated instruction, the library creates lessons and units that meet the needs of all types of learners. These lessons teach students to use databases and the online catalog system to locate their own materials. Other lessons include topics such as researching skills, genres of literature, and website evaluation which are all aimed at helping Conway students become effective users of information. Mrs. Small, the librarian, strives to get to know students as readers and understand their reading preferences and abilities. To promote recreational reading, she reads books aloud to classes and gives short advertisements for books called "book talks". She also sponsors reading clubs and uses programs like the Mark Twain Award and Show Me Reader Award to promote reading at Conway. Mrs. Small works with classroom and special area teachers to find resources for every child and each curriculum need. To accomplish the goals outlined above, the library has a variety of print and electronic resources at its disposal. Our well-rounded collection of books and magazines provide for the fiction and nonfiction reading needs of the students. Our online encyclopedias and databases are accessible on any school computer, enabling students and teachers to gain access to information whenever and wherever they need it. Within the library, many lessons are taught using an LCD projector and screen, and students frequently do their own exploring using the computer workstations or a classroom set of laptops. The newest addition to Conway's library is a digital audio book collection featuring over 50 books! All of these resources combine to create an inviting and information-rich environment for our school.
