VOCAL MUSIC - Mrs. Nancy Walther

MusicThe study of music is an essential part of the education of all students at Conway School. A sequential curriculum emphasizes experiencing and enjoying music while building music literacy and understanding through performing, listening, creating, and analyzing music. Kodaly, Orff, Dalcroze, and other philosophies are integrated into the instruction and address all learning styles of the students. Cultural enrichment and historical connections are emphasized in the selection of repertoire and activities.

Music

Fourth grade students have the opportunity to begin instruction in stringed instruments as a before school activity. At the fifth grade level, students choose one of three options (vocal, band, or strings) for music instruction during the day. Additional experiences, such as the fourth and fifth grade chorus, are offered before school and provide advanced study of choral music. Students in all grade levels attend assemblies presented by Young Audiences and other guest artists. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students attend educational concerts presented by the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra at Powell Symphony Hall. Student performances include the Winter Festivals Assembly, chorus concerts, band concerts, orchestra concerts, and musicals.
