Nurse

Climb that mountain

Welcome to the LHWHS Nursing Office website

What is school nursing?

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success and lifelong achievement of students.  To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and learning.  (NASN, 1999).

The role of the licensed school nurse is more than just a clinician that provides the daily nursing care and case management, but also acts as a student advocate, social worker, health educator, and liaison on a student by student basis.

Here at the high school, we have one full-time registered nurse, Kelli Buehner, R.N., and a health room paraprofessional, Ms. Cheri Taylor.

In addition to the Student Handbook, we hope this website will help provide you with helpful information regarding our health services policies and make available the most frequently requested forms you can download and print for your convenience.
