National Junior Honor Society

Welcome to Ladue Middle School’s chapter!  The National Junior Honor Society is an organization whose purpose is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage good citizenship.  We are looking forward to welcoming many new members during the induction ceremony in the spring.

Potential New Members of NJHS
In January, a packet will be mailed to seventh and eighth grade students with:
- a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or above
- Six or more O's in citizenship in the first semester of the current school year
- no I or U Citizenship grades in the first semester of the current school year

Applications for 2012-2013 membership to NJHS will be mailed home the week of Jan. 23.
They are due back by 3 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Welcome Center.

Requirements

Students who are eligible for selection must:

  • Have fifteen hours of community service.
  • Not have been assigned to BIC or have had an out of school suspension  during the current school year.
  • Complete the NJHS application packet, including the Student Activities Form and Honors and Awards form.

If all of the above requirements are met by the deadline stated in the application packet, the application will be reviewed by the selection committee.  The completion of a packet does not automatically guarantee admittance into the National Junior Honor Society.

It’s never too early to start those community service hours!  Get started now, so you are not rushed to get them finished after packets have been distributed. Below are some guidelines about community service and a list of suggested activities where past and current NJHS members have volunteered.

Service is generally considered to be those activities undertaken by the student, which are done with or on behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation to the individual performing the service.

Possible Community Service Organizations:

Toy Drives
Food Shelters
Art Start
Hosea House
Soup Kitchens
Operation Food Search
Feeding the homeless
Service projects through religious organizations
Ronald McDonald House
Kids Connection (tutoring club at LMS)
Circle of Concern
Nursing Homes
Autism Speaks
Pet Co
Recycling Projects (outside of school)
