Chapter 1

Know: an equation contains an equal sign

Understand: to solve an equation you must isolate the variable

Do: solve an equation by using the inverse operation

Chapter 2

Know: integers are the set of whole numbers including zero and their opposites

Understand: how to use the integer rules

Do: Use the integer rules to solve expressions, equations and word problems

Chapter 3

Know: a rational number is a number that can be expressed as a fraction or decimal

Understand: the integer rules apply to rational numbers

Do: use the integer rules to solve expressions, equations and word problems with rational numbers

Chapter 4

Know: graphs are a way of organizing data in order to analyze and interpret the data

Understand: a graph has to have a title, equal increments on the axes and the axes need to be labeled

Do: interpret data by looking for trends and patterns in the graphs

Chapter 5 Plane Geometry

Know: geometry means to measure the earth.

Understand: geometry terms help you describe shapes and designs that occur in nature as well

as in man-made objects.

Do: measure different angle measurements.

Chapter 6 Perimeter, Area and volume

Know: there are different formulas to find perimeter, area, and volume depending on the

shape

Understand: perimeter is 1 dimensional, area is 2 dimensional, and volume is 3 dimensional

Do: find perimeter, area, and volume of different figures

Chapter 7 Ratios and Similarity

Know: ratios can be used to solve different types of problems.

Understand: ratios compare two different quantities.

Do: use ratios to solve proportions, word problems and convert units within a system of measurement.
