Science Newsletters are emailed to parents on a regular basis, usually 2x per month alternating with the grade sheets that go home to keep you up to date on what is going on in the classroom and beyond. Grade sheets go home for parent review & signatures approximately every two weeks.
Science Help: Before school 7:00-8:00am, room 219, afterschool on Thursdays, & during lunch.

Jr. Academy of Science - Tuesday afterschool, room 219 & when we have special fieldtrips about 2x per month. See schedule below of trips that are scheduled.

Science Olympiad - There are 22 different events that kids can participate in afterschool. Very fun!

Know Understand Do
Multiple Intelligences: naturalistic, spatial, logical-mathematical, bodily-kinesthetic, linguistic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and existential intelligence. All people are intelligent but their intelligences are in different ways. Learn what your strengths, talents, or Multiple Intelligences are and continue to develop these through out the year.

Thinking Levels: The 6 levels of thinking are knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.

Science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking.

Do practice being aware about what level you are thinking on.
Nature of Science: Know what a hypothesis, an inference an observation and what analyzing evidence means. Science is limited to studying the natural world & uses logical thought processess to explain the world & universe we live in. Learn to how to think like a scientist.

JAS is an initative of the Academy of Science of St. Louis, a professional organization with a mission for fostering science and engineering literacy. JAS membership is open to students who are 6th - 12th grade. As a member of the JAS, you are invited to join us on about 2 fieldtrips per month to local research and scientific institutions around the St. Louis area.

Each activity earns points in the Academy of Science. Students who participate in Science Fair &/or Science Olympiad also earn points in the Academy of Science.

September 5: Opening meeting for Science Olympiad. Meet afterschool in the cafeteria to learn more about the 22 different events you can participate in. Kids in Jr. Academy will earn points if they participate in Science Olympiad.
September 12: Scientists from the Danforth Center will be here to get your feedback on a program they have written to help kids understand plants. We'll meet in the Computer Lab, LMC.
September 19: We will meet in 219 and discuss many of the things we are going to do this year.
September 26: Adopt a Highway Clean up. Dress for the outdoors.
