Course Information

How do students come prepared for class each day?

Students' pencils, pens, paper, marker/crayons, reading texts, and class assignments are in the classroom. Students may come to Reading class with their planners. All other materials are provided.

What are the expectations for homework and class work, late work or make-up assignments?

Students are graded on the work completed in the classroom. When a student returns from an absence, he or she will return to the classroom activity or work on missing assignments.

What about Reading Homework?

We expect our students to read for enjoyment (5 days a week for 30 minutes a day). Students may read newspapers, novels, information texts, comics, or school textbooks. Practice helps our students' fluency, stamina and comprehension to improve.

Evaluation of Student Work

The Student Support Services Reading Teachers will select benchmark pieces of student work, running records, Jerry Johns' Reading Inventories, and Scoring Guides for each student. Grading and percents for the Middle School are as follows:

A+ (100-97.5%) A (97-91.5%) A- (91-89.5%)

B+ (89-87.5%) B (87-81.5%) B- (81-79.5%)

C+ (79-77.5%) C (77-71.5%) C- (71-69.5%)

D+ (69-67.5%) D (67-61.5%) D- (61-59.5%)
